This is an abstract for the World Forum on Ayahuasca (2026) where I discuss the idea that our loss, as Europeans, of access to our imaginary realms and inner lives drives a pathological need for meaning, similar to the Buddhist concept of The Hungry Ghosts. This has possibly led to the craving for psychedelic experience and some of the damage done to indigenous traditions.
